Sungeun Lim

Sung joined the Mitch lab in July 2022 as a postdoc researcher. She is interested in underlying reaction mechanisms of organic/inorganic chemicals during oxidation processes in water treatment. Her research journey has begun in Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (South Korea), where she investigated nitrosamine formation mechanisms during ozonation as a research assistant after MSc. This experience led her to pursue a PhD at Eawag and EPFL (Switzerland) on a topic of ozonation of nitrogen-containing compounds such as aliphatic amines and azoles. Recently, she expanded her research scope to halogen radical species and their reactions with organic matter. In her free time, she enjoys outdoor activities such as climbing, slacklining, and skiing.

Her current research focuses on chlorination of heterocyclic functional groups in biomolecules and algal toxin, especially for their fundamental reaction kinetics and product formation.
